The Headless Object

February 3 - March 6, 2025

Closing reception: March 2, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

In non-dualistic meditation practice, when one “looks for the looker,” the illusion of a self, looking out at the world, from the edge of consciousness, dissolves. From the bright space of awareness there is just the world with all its contents arising and disappearing in an ever-changing experience of sensations, phenomenon, thoughts, emotions and objects.

As a maker, I have tended to address a particular idea or hoped to express a particular feeling. I have made from the position that I make choices and I exert control over the material world. The Headless Object tests out the possibility, that, like objects, I am more akin to process: emerging, changing, disappearing. The ‘exhibition’ changes each day. Sometimes a new form is added. Other times a rearranging or a removal. Arrangements of flowers echo this continuum of change as a practice of engagement and witness.

The Headless Object invites viewers to an experience of objects in this wide gaze framework - as emergent phenomenon in a field of awareness.
