Bill Swartz has been the men’s soccer coach at Pomona-Pitzer since 1986. During his three decades as the head coach of the Sagehens, his programs have been a model of consistency. Pomona-Pitzer has reached 10 wins or more 18 times in that span, and have finished .500 or better 22 times (including 21 in the last 24 years). His career record at Pomona-Pitzer (through 2012) stands at 280-192-17. After guiding the Sagehens to a SCIAC title in 2012, he took a sabbatical during the 2013 season to coach in England with the Tottenham Hotspur organization.
After losing seasons in two of his first three years, Swartz led the Sagehens to a second-place finish in the SCIAC in 1989 and a league championship in 1990. From 1996-2006, his teams won nearly twice as many games as they lost, going 132-69-7 in that span, while winning four SCIAC titles. In 2009, Swartz guided the Sagehens to a 13-4-2 overall record and a first-place finish in the SCIAC with an 11-1-2 conference mark, the best league record of his career. He added another first-place finish in the SCIAC in 2012, guiding Pomona-Pitzer to a 13-2-1 league mark (14-5-1) overall, and an 11-game winning streak, the program’s longest since 1973.
