All Residence Halls Will Close

  • Students must depart from the Residence Halls on Saturday, December 14, 2024 by 12:00 p.m. noon.
  • After Residence Halls close, Housing and Residence Life staff will be entering all rooms to check for health, safety, and vacancy.
  • Residence Halls will reopen on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 8:00 a.m.

Leaving for the Break – Returning to same room in Spring

  • Prepare your room to be vacant for a month.
  • Defrost/clean/air out any food-based appliances.
  • Remove all perishables and trash from your room into communal trash.
  • Unplug all appliances.
  • Clean, exchange, or return green boxes, dishes, and cups.
  • Put all bikes, scooters, etc. in room. 
  • Retrieve ALL items from laundry rooms, bathrooms, and the Student Mailroom.
  • Take any important documents (passport, ID cards, credit cards), medications, and valuables with you. There is no access to the residence halls during the break.
  • Close and lock windows, close all blinds, turn off lights, and lock your door when leaving campus.
  • Keys – Students not hosting Winter Break housing can keep their key throughout the break. Students hosting Winter Break housing in Walker must return their key to HRL (see Winter Break policies).

Moving out - Not Returning for Spring

  • Housing and Residence Life will communicate with students approved for Fall Move-out (Spring Study Abroad, Spring Leave of Absence, Fall Graduation).
  • If another student is moving into the room, HRL may connect students with each other to assist room change coordination.
  • Retreive all items from the Pomona Student Mailroom.
  • Remove all personal items from the room. Any remaining items will be financially charged as trash.
  • Close all blinds, turn off lights, and lock the door when leaving campus.
  • Return the Room Key

      • NOTE: Students must complete an electronic Key Return Form before dropping your key in a key drop box. A QR code is available at each drop box location.
      • Keys not returned will result in a lock change financial charge.

Storage

  • Â鶹´«Ã½ does not offer semester or longterm storage. Please review the following resources below:

    • Privately coordinated portable storage units
      • All portable storage units must be registered (registration, dates, and delivery directions at this )
      • Approved Sites
        • North – 8th Street Parking spots
        • South – Kenyon House Parking Lot
        • Do not have pods delivered to any other locations.
      • Approved Dates
        • Earliest Arrival – Friday before finals week.
        • Last Departure – All units must be removed by Tuesday after closing.
        • Please do not keep your storage container on campus more than 4 days.

Changing Rooms between Fall and Spring

  • Students changing their rooms (as approved and coordinated by HRL) must complete the move out of their Fall room by Fall Closing (someone else has to move into that space!)
  • There are three options as to where items may go:
    • Move items into the new spring room by Fall Closing 
      • HRL will connect the two students (one checking out of the room, the other checking into the room) to coordinate how and when the new student can place items into a considated corner of the room. 
      • ALL ITEMS MUST BE LABELED WITH YOUR NAME. 
      • Do not exchange keys, all keys must be returned to HRL for formal check in/out documentation.
    • Approved to move 2 boxes into Walker Storage 
      • as space allows, pick up items from Walker Storage during Spring Move-in.
      • Walker Storage will be accessible for approved students 1pm-5pm on the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Finals week. 
    • Privately coordinated - Take items off campus or into private storage
      • Bring items back to campus during Spring Move-in.

Finals Week Quiet Hours

  • are Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 12:01 a.m. through Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.

Dining Hall Service

Vehicles over break

  • Vehicles registered via Campus Safety can be parked in the South Campus Parking Structure.

Bikes over break

  • Remove all bikes from bike racks and store within rooms (not hallways or suite commons rooms).
  • Facilities will conduct an abandoned bike sweep on Monday, December 16, 2024. Any unclaimed bikes will be donated to the Green Bikes program. Contact sustainability@pomona.edu with any questions. 

Travel Resources

  • Â鶹´«Ã½ will not accept any Late Departure exceptions due to changes in travel plans.
  • Students will not be able to wait inside the residence halls past closing for late flights, pick-ups, etc.

Room Inspections

  • HRL will perform visual inspections of each room to ensure it is prepared properly for winter break, adhearing to the room standards listed above.
  • Financial charges – A list of Common Charges can be found on the homepage of Residence.
  • Common Student Code of Conduct Charges – Fire Safety, Candles, ceiling attachments, smoke detectors, alcohol, etc.
  • Work orders: HRL staff will submit any work orders needed to repair/replace any damage.

Fall Late Departure, Winter Break Stay, Winter Stay Hosts, and Spring Early Arrival information

Mailroom

  • The Pomona Mailroom will be closed TBA and reopen TBA. Students must pick up all mail, packages, and boxes before leaving campus.
  • The Mailroom will not forward items during the break.
