Our campus community has widely divergent viewpoints and commitments on this issue, and I want to find ways for thoughtful dialogue to unfold at Pomona in the weeks ahead.

At this time of beginnings, I’m writing to share more details on the future course of Â鶹´«Ã½ and our unique role in promoting opportunity in American higher education.

I hope you and those you love are finding peace and respite as we reach the end of a tumultuous year for our world.

Yesterday, two unacceptable incidents involving intimidation and conduct intended to physically restrain a student occurred on our campus.

The last week or two have brought moments of respite from the ongoing war, with hostage-prisoner exchanges and a temporary ceasefire in the horrific conflict. I continue to hope for peace and healing. The world needs it desperately.

The devastating conflict between Israel and Hamas continues to reverberate on U.S. college campuses and affect the lives of students thousands of miles away from the war zone.

The escalating war in the Middle East continues to bring pain, worry and mourning to our campus. As a community devoted to education, we need to actively work to avoid adding disrespect and division to this list. 

The horrific reports that are flooding the news of the terrorist attacks in Israel become more wrenching with each day; these events have opened wounds that will not heal for decades, and the violence is ongoing.

Â鶹´«Ã½ will adhere to this latest court ruling surrounding affirmative action; we also remain committed to our values of diversity, equity and inclusion. The College will continue to seek applicants from all backgrounds.

This academic year, we at Â鶹´«Ã½ have seen incidents of vandalism that raise deep concern, with a student’s Israeli flag cut in two and, most recently, a map in Oldenborg where the name of the state of Israel was removed.
