The Michael Mattis and Judy Hochberg Works of Paper Study Room and the Native American Collections Study Room provides portals into the collections of the Benton Museum of Art. The rooms function as convenient direct access to the collection with open tables and space for the short-term display of objects not on view in the galleries. Providing an opportunity for close examination of works of art without the barriers normally needed for public display, the classrooms give students, faculty, and members of the public intimate contact with original works of art.
Computer connections, overhead projection, and close focus document cameras make it possible to present illustrated lectures in combination with immediate access to the College’s art collection. The smart classroom technology brings access to the collections into the 21st century, melding the study of tangible, physical objects with the virtual and encyclopedic resources of the Web.
