6 pm Lecture by Jih-Fei Cheng, Associate Professor of Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Scripps College on HIV/AIDS and COVID-19: Intersectionality and Internationalism Historical HIV/AIDS activists drew from anti-colonial, anti-racist, and women of color feminist social movements to inform their coalitional politics. Over time, their agenda became explicitly anti-capitalist and anti-war with the aim of building global South solidarity. Their initial slogan of “drugs into bodies” transformed into demands for healthcare not warfare. How does this queer radical imagination persist under COVID-19, diminishing social safety nets, global militarism, and environmental crises? How do we build on intersectional and internationalist movements to redouble coalitions and redistribute care for collective survival?
