"Shortlist Revealed for 2018 Jameel Prize," by Alex Greenberger, ArtÂ鶹´«Ã½
The Jameel Prize has revealed the eight artists shortlisted for its 2018 award. Given by the Victoria and Albert Museum and Art Jameel to an artist making work inspired by Islamic art and design, the award comes with £25,000, or about $35,000.
The artists in the running for the 2018 prize are Kamrooz Aram, Hayv Kahraman, Hala Kaiksow, Mehdi Moutashar, naqsh collective, Younes Rahmoun, Wardha Shabbir, and Marina Tabassum. Their work will be on view in London at the V&A in a Jameel Prize exhibition that opens on June 28.
Jurors for this years prize include Tristram Hunt, the director of the V&A; Tanya Harrod, a design historian; Salah Hassan, a professor at Cornell University; November Paynter, the director of programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Toronto; and Ghulam Mohammad, the winner of fourth Jameel Prize.
This year marks the fifth time the prize has been awarded. Past winners have included Afruz Amighi, Dice Kayek, Mohammad, and Rachid Koraïchi.
